Vancouver Canucks sign forward Nils Hoglander to two-year contract extension

VANCOUVER – Swedish forward Nils Hoglander has signed a two-year contract extension with the Vancouver Canucks, the team announced on Sunday.

The deal carries an average annual value of $1.1 million.

The 22-year-old Hoglander scored three goals and six assists in 23 games with the Canucks last season. He also tallied 14 goals and 18 assists in 45 games with the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks.

“Nils learned a lot this past season, especially playing meaningful playoff games in Abbotsford,” Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said in a release. “It’s not easy to start the year in the NHL and then be sent down to the American League, but we were impressed with the way he took that challenge head on.

“This experience should really help Nils compete for a spot on our team at training camp this fall.”

The 5-9, 185-pound winger was Vancouver’s second-round pick (40th overall) in the 2019 NHL draft.

In 141 career games with the Canucks, Hoglander has scored 26 goals and 28 assists.
