Ex-soldier gets life in prison after pleading guilty to killing father, stepmother

MONTREAL – A former member of the Canadian Forces has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder charges in the deaths of his father and stepmother.

Guillaume Gelinas entered the pleas Monday, four years after Luc Gelinas and Julie Lemieux were killed in their home in Terrebonne, just north of Montreal.

Superior Court Justice Michel Pennou accepted the joint suggestion from the Crown and defence lawyers that Gelinas be eligible for parole only after serving 18 years in prison.

The 26-year-old Gelinas served in Afghanistan.

He was arrested within hours of the deaths in February 2014.
