Campaign to expand Okanagan Mountain Park didn’t meet fundraising goal but optimism prevails
The B.C. Parks Foundation fell slightly short of its goal of expanding Okanagan Mountain Park by raising $4 million to purchase an adjacent property, but with a little extra breathing room it could still happen.
The 151.7-acre waterfront parcel is located north of Halfmoon Bay and Rattlesnake Island.
The campaign is currently $117,538 short of its $4 million goal. The July 15 deadline was extended to July 22. On July 23, Jennie McCaffrey, director of engagement for B.C. Parks Foundations, said it has been extended again by a couple of days.
“We’re very, very confident that at the end of the day tomorrow (July 24) we will cross the finish line,” she said.

Although McCaffrey is optimistic about further support from previous donors, she reminds the public they can still support the campaign by donating through this link.
“It will make an incredible difference because it’s the people of the Okanagan and British Columbia who have come forward and said, green space in important to us and we want to protect this special place forever,” she said, adding that 125 at-risk species habituate on the parcel of land.
