PENTICTON – The City of Penticton has begun its capital works program for the summer, with this summer’s focus on road re-surfacing, water main replacement and parking lot development.

City Communications Officer Tina Lee says Grizzly Excavating has been awarded the contract for the work, which began with parking lot development on Vernon Avenue on July 11.

The sixteen projects on this year’s capital works list also include:

  • Government Street road resurfacing, July 18 to July 25
  • Main Street, Granby Ave. to Industrial Ave., resurfacing, July 25 to Aug.2
  • Main Street, Duncan Ave. to Edna Ave., resurfacing, July 27 to Aug.2
  • Douglas Ave. to Argyle to Fairview, water main replacement, July 25 to Aug. 16
  • Queens Park School traffic calming, July 25 to Aug.2
  • SOEC parking lot expansion, Aug. to Aug. 12
  • Secrest Ave. storm drainage works, Aug. 1 to Aug. 10
  • Conklin Ave., Argyle to FaIrview water main replacement, Aug. 5 to Aug. 26
  • Argyle Ave. water main replacement, Aug. 5 to Sept. 2
  • Ontario St. storm water runoff interceptor, Aug. 15 to Aug. 24
  • Kinney Ave. storm water runoff interceptor, Aug. 18 to Aug. 24
  • Eckhardt Ave., Riverside Dr. to Westminster Ave. sidewalk upgrade, Sept. 21 to Sept.
  • 30
  • Skaha Lake Rd., Yorkton Ave. to Parkview St. sanitary sewer upgrade, Sept. 28 to Oct. 27

Lee says their may be some inconvenience to residents in the neighbourhoods where  roadwork is taking place. Residents are asked to drive carefully through construction zones and pay attention to signage and traffic control personnel.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
