iN VIDEO: RCMP capture masked bandit in ‘bizarre’ BC home invasion

Police in the Victoria area suburb of Langford got a very unusual call for help earlier this week.

Officers responded to reports of screaming coming from the 500 block of Leckfield Avenue in Langford at around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, according to an RCMP media release. Moments later, another call was received from the same location. A dog had just been attacked.

The culprit: an unruly racoon.

The racoon attacked the dog while he was outside in the resident’s yard. The dog ran inside, only to be followed by the lawless racoon who then fought with the residents of the home.

The residents grappled with the animal, trapping it in the bathroom, before calling the police for assistance.

"This was a bizarre encounter for police. We generally do not attend wildlife calls however, residents in the home had received injuries from this animal and Animal Control was not available, so the officers stepped in to help," West Shore RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Nancy Saggar said in the release.

Using a using a dog pole (brought by the police) and a lacrosse pole (offered up by the homeowner), the two officers were able to capture and detain the racoon, before releasing it outside.

The residents of the home and the dog received minor injuries from the incident.
