BAT ASSAULT: Kamloops man accused of attempted murder seeks bail

KAMLOOPS – The man accused of beating an 18-year-old over the head with a baseball bat will find out if he will be granted bail today.

Kristopher Teichrieb, 39, appeared in Kamloops Provincial Court this morning, July 18, waving at his common-law partner as he walked in. He's facing one charge of attempted murder.

The details of Teichrieb's bail hearing cannot be released due to a court-ordered publication ban.

Jessie Simpson was apparently leaving a party in the early morning hours of June 19. He ended up on Teichrieb's Clifford Avenue property while looking for a friend's address.

Teichrieb's mother says there has been a history of break-ins at her son's home.

An altercation between Simpson and Teichrieb ensued and Simpson was chased down the street and struck over the head with a baseball bat numerous times. He has been in a coma ever since.

Simpson's last known condition was "grave" and he was on life support.

Teichrieb's bail hearing is expected to wrap up today, but could continue later this week.
