Kelowna to get new buses, expanded UBCO bus loop
KELOWNA – Transit users in the Central Okanagan will benefit from funding announcements made today by the provincial government.
Newer, more technologically advanced buses are on the way, according to the media release from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, which will include closed circuit television, real time tracking information and automatic passenger counters.
UBC Okanagan will see a $5.1 million expansion of its bus loop in a bid to increase capacity and reduce crowding during peak demand hours, the release says. Kelowna is providing $2.8 million for the improvement while the federal and provincial governments provided the rest.
The funding was made available through the new Public Transit Infrastructure Fund.
