BAT ASSAULT: Another delay in bail decision for man accused of beating teen

KAMLOOPS – The Kamloops man charged with attempted murder after allegedly beating a teen into a coma will spend at least one more week behind bars.

Kristopher Teichrieb, 39, appeared in Kamloops Provincial Court today, July 21, for his bail hearing wearing a plaid shirt and grey pants.

Teichrieb held his head in his hands for most of the hearing, as lawyers presented evidence to the court. We cannot publish details about the hearing due to a court-ordered publication ban.

Judge Stephen Harrison told the court today he will have a decision on bail Thursday, July 28.

Teichrieb is accused of chasing down Jessie Simpson, 18, and beating him over the head with a baseball bat.

According to family and friends, Simpson had been attending a party on the night of June 18. In the early morning hours of June 19, Simpson apparently ended up on Teichrieb's property.

Teichrieb's mother has said his property had a history of break-ins and attempted break-ins.

Simpson has been in a coma ever since, and the founder of a GoFundMe page for him has said online there is no update on Simpson's condition.

"I've been delaying an update due to the fact that there isn't anything new I can tell you at this point," Christina Forde writes.

The page has raised more than $10,000 so far for Simpson's medical expenses and the funds are expected to be transferred to his family by the end of this week.
