Suspicious vehicle fire in West Kelowna

KELOWNA – West Kelowna firefighters worked quickly to put out a suspicious vehicle fire early this morning that could have spread to the surrounding bush.

Crews responded to the vehicle fire at about 2:26 a.m., July 21, in the 2800-block of Glenrosa Road and found the vehicle completely engulfed in flames and spreading into the nearby forrest, according to a West Kelowna Fire Rescue media release.

“The preliminary fire cause and origin investigation is complete and a fire crews have thoroughly overhauled the fire area and are monitoring for hot spots," deputy fire chief Darren Lee says in the release. "The cause of the fire is unknown but is considered to be suspicious."

"The incident has been turned over to West Kelowna RCMP for investigation,” he says.

Lee says is reminding residents and visitors that with the recent trend towards summer weather the wildfire danger rating will begin to increase throughout the community.
