Kelowna RCMP ask for help to find stolen pickup that rammed police cruiser

RCMP are on the hunt for suspects in a stolen pickup after a police car was rammed in a mall parking lot last night.

Police were called about two possibly intoxicated people sleeping in a pickup truck parked in a mall parking lot at around 6:55 p.m. yesterday, Oct. 10, according to an RCMP media release. RCMP do not say where in Kelowna the mall was located.

When officers located the pickup they attempted to speak with the individuals in the truck.

The truck unexpectedly backed up and accelerated forward colliding with the front of the patrol vehicle resulting in damage. The suspects fled the scene and there were multiple reports about the truck being driven recklessly throughout the night. No officers or members of the public were injured.

RCMP are on the lookout for a 2008 Dodge pickup with body damage and BC license plate G89876. The licence plate is stolen as well as the truck.

"This was a highly volatile and dangerous situation," Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Const. Mike Della-Paolera said in the release.

Police are asking anyone who sees the pickup to not approach it and to instead call 911 and reference Kelowna RCMP file number 2023-60776.

As a political scientist interested in social justice issues and current events, I hold topics of
politics, inequalities, community news, arts, and culture close to my heart. I find myself
privileged to be reporting local news, because local journalism is where us citizens go to get
access to information and news that directly impact our livelihoods. That is what I love about
it; I believe journalism to be the most important part for our community to be aware,
informed, and tightly bonded by the knowledge of what is happening around us. I am a fierce
believer in journalism being the fourth power of a democracy because, famously, knowledge
is power, and journalism puts that power in the hands of our community so that we can
continue growing, building bonds between each other and continuously keep learning about
ourselves.
