Man with machete arrested in Penticton

Penticton RCMP arrested a 39-year-old man with a machete in a store on Main Street yesterday.

Officers were called at around 10:50 a.m. yesterday, Oct. 19, about a man threatening a store’s staff with a machete, according to an RCMP media release. RCMP don't identify the business.

When officers arrived the man refused to obey their directions and drop the weapon.

Police then used a Taser to subdue the man and then arrested him.

The man in custody is charged with assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest and uttering threats.

RCMP said investigators are unsure of the man’s motives.

No members of the public were injured in the incident, police said.
