LONDON, England – English Premier League side Tottenham has apologized to Wayne Gretzky for giving the hockey icon a soccer jersey with his name misspelled.
Former Spurs star Ledley King presented The Great One with a No. 99 jersey with “Gretsky” on the back before Wednesday’s Capital One Cup game London rival Arsenal at White Hart Lane.
“Our sincere apologies to @OfficialGretzky for the shirt error. New one on its way!” the club tweeted at halftime.
“Not to worry @SpursOfficial It happens all the time!” a gracious Gretzky responded via Twitter.
Adding to Spurs’ pain, Arsenal won 2-1.
