More than a thousand gather for Kelowna’s Remembrance Day ceremony

More than a thousand people gathered around the cenotaph in downtown Kelowna for the Remembrance Day ceremony and parade.

Roughly 1,500 people stood around the war memorial for Kelowna’s veterans of the First, Second, and Korean Wars in City Park.

The parade began around 10:30 a.m. travelling from Stuart Park down Bernard Avenue to Abbott street and finally arriving at the cenotaph around 11 a.m.

The ceremony included a prayer or “meditation corresponding with your religion or beliefs.”

Special guests, veterans, families, and politicians, laid wreaths in front of the cenotaph. Everyone was invited to place their poppies on the memorial after the ceremony.

Service members, including Mounties and cadets, then led a procession to the Queensway traffic circle.
