Royal Inland Hospital receives life saving equipment thanks to Kamloops firefighters

KAMLOOPS – The Royal Inland Hospital is getting a new piece of life-saving equipment thanks to the city’s firefighters.

The Kamloops Fire Fighters Charitable Society has donated funds for a brand new chest compression unit to the hospital. Called a Lucas 2, the machine allows chest compressions to be done in a consistent way without tiring, according to a media release.

“The Lucas 2 is capable of maintaining a consistent compression rate and will free up medical teams, allowing them to focus on other lifesaving tasks at hand,” Royal Inland Hospital Foundation CEO Heidi Coleman says in the release.

The machine is small enough to fit in a backpack and meant to wrap around a person’s body to press down on their chest.
