Woman running on trail in Salmon Arm attacked by bear

A jogger in Salmon Arm was attacked and injured by a bear this morning.

The woman was running on a trail near 50 Avenue SW in southwest Salmon Arm at around 11 a.m. today, Nov. 21, when a black bear knocked her down, according to a BC Conservation Officer Service media release.

“The bear bit and shook her before disengaging and leaving the area,” the release read.

The woman was treated at hospital with minor injuries.

Conservation and RCMP officers, along with paramedics responded to the attack.

The conservation officers stayed in the area of the attack for several hours but there was no sign of the bear.

Signs have gone up in the area and officers went door-to-door to alert nearby residents.

The conservation officer service promises updates as its investigation continues.
