Kamloops to host national university soccer tournament in 2017

KAMLOOPS – Thompson Rivers University will be hosting a national collegiate championship next year.

Canadian Interuniversity Sport has announced the mens soccer championship will be coming to the Tournament Capital in 2017. It will be the first time the university has hosted the event, according to a media release.

The university’s team, the WolfPack, has been in the top-level university soccer league for only four years. They receive an automatic spot in the tournament as hosts.

The championship pits eight teams against each other for the Sam Davidson Memorial Trophy. It will run from Nov. 9 to Nov. 12, 2017.

It is only the second Canadian Interuniversity Sport tournament held in Kamloops, after the 2010 men’s volleyball nationals in 2010. The university has been part of the organization, which operates Canada’s top university-level sports leagues, for 11 years.
