‘Mullet Toss’ draws thousands along Alabama-Florida line

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – Fish are flying this weekend along the beach at the Alabama-Florida state line.

The Flora-Bama Lounge is holding its annual Mullet Toss and beach party on Perdido Key.

Fish-throwing contests and other events began Friday and continue through Sunday. Participants in the Mullet Toss throw dead fish from a 10-foot circle across the Florida state line into Alabama.

There’s a $15 entry fee to fling a fish, and organizers say the event raises about $20,000 annually for charity.

Tens of thousands of people usually attend the event, making for traffic tie-ups and delays in the area. The weather forecast shows sunny skies and high temperatures in the 70s, so crowds could be big.
