Collision involving semis closed Coquihalla overnight

A collision south of Merritt closed the Coquihalla Highway overnight.

The route reopened around 6:30 a.m. today, Jan. 16, after a vehicle recovery near the Great Bear Snowshed, according to DriveBC.

The stretch of Highway 5 was closed at around 6 p.m. yesterday due to southbound semi trucks that blocked all lanes, DriveBC said on Twitter.

Collision analysts were sent to the area for a serious multi vehicle collision around 12 hours before the highway could open again, RCMP Cpl. Dave Noon said on Twitter.

How many vehicles were involved and whether there were injuries or deaths isn't clear.
