Elizabeth May is coming to Kamloops to discuss the proposed Ajax Mine

KAMLOOPS – A federal party leader is coming to Kamloops later this week to discuss the proposed Ajax Mine.

Elizabeth May, leader of the federal Green Party and MP for the Saanich-Gulf Islands riding on B.C.'s coast, will be joined by local political figures in a public townhall meeting this Friday, July 29.

Hosted by the Kamloops Area Preservation Association, a group opposed to the proposed mine, the discussion will centre around the impact the mine could have on Kamloops and nearby residents.

May will share the stage with local Coun. Denis Walsh and Dr. Jill Calder, according to a Green Party media release.

The event is free and open to the public. It’s scheduled for St. Andrew’s on the Square at 159 Seymour St. from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The environmental application for proposed copper and gold mine on Kamloops’s southwest border is temporarily suspended at the request of the mine’s proponent. It’s expected to restart in the fall once they have collected more information to answer questions for the provincial and federal environmental assessment offices.
