Police watchdog called in after man arrested in Lumby injured

BC's police watchdog is investigating after police arrested an injured man in Lumby earlier this month.

North Okanagan RCMP arrested the man who was in a suspicious vehicle on Bloom Road after he refused to cooperate with officers, according to the Independent Investigations Officer of BC.

They were called to the scene around 5:22 p.m. on Jan. 3, where the man locked himself inside the vehicle while officers tried to speak with him. An "interaction" ensued and he was arrested.

While officers were taking him into custody, they found the man was seriously injured, which appeared to be self-inflicted, according to the news release.

The nature of his injuries weren't described, but the man was taken to hospital and the Independent Investigations Officer was later notified.
