iN PHOTOS: Big White skiing conditions are looking up

It snowed at Big White and it seems the conditions are looking much better than they might have been in the past week to go skiing.

Michael J. Ballingall, the resort's senior vice-president of marketing and sales, shared a few pictures on social media portraying the beautiful conditions at the resort currently.

While Big White got six more centimetres of snow between Feb 1 and 2 allowing for better conditions, other ski resorts in the Okanagan aren't doing as well.

Silverstar has gotten barely any snow and shared a statement early Feb. 2 that their operations would probably be impacted for another few days because of the warm temperature.

Apex Mountain got a mixture of rain and snow overnight, but not enough to allow night skiing on Feb. 2 and 3 which their website says is closed because of the "unseasonably warmer weather and snow conditions."

Sun Peaks Resort might see hope on the horizon for the coming days. As of now, they have gotten very little snow, but are hoping for some extended flurries as the week goes on.

As a political scientist interested in social justice issues and current events, I hold topics of
politics, inequalities, community news, arts, and culture close to my heart. I find myself
privileged to be reporting local news, because local journalism is where us citizens go to get
access to information and news that directly impact our livelihoods. That is what I love about
it; I believe journalism to be the most important part for our community to be aware,
informed, and tightly bonded by the knowledge of what is happening around us. I am a fierce
believer in journalism being the fourth power of a democracy because, famously, knowledge
is power, and journalism puts that power in the hands of our community so that we can
continue growing, building bonds between each other and continuously keep learning about
ourselves.
