
Penticton’s crime rate trending downward: RCMP
Crime rates were down in Penticton aside from a spike in domestic violence for the last three months of 2023, according to the latest statistics from RCMP.
Over the same time period in 2022, Penticton RCMP received 27 calls about domestic violence incidents. In 2023, there were 45 domestic violence incidents during the months October, November and December.
The two most common calls the RCMP received for the last quarter of 2023 were for unwanted person and wellness checks.
Police received 379 about unwanted people and 257 calls for wellness checks.
Overall, calls were down by 17% from 1,689 in 2022 to 1,406 in 2023.
The quarterly RCMP report is going to city council's meeting Tuesday, Feb. 6.
