SHAWINIGAN, Que. – The Charlottetown Islanders avoided elimination in the President Cup final with a 7-0 rout of the Shawinigan Cataractes on Thursday.
William Trudeau’s first of two goals on the night held up as the winner in Game 4 of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League finals. Brett Budgell had two goals and an assist for the Islanders, who sliced Shawinigan’s series lead to 3-1.
Jakub Brabenec had a goal and two assists, while Lukas Cormier and Patrick Guay had singles.
Islanders goalie Francesco Lapenna stopped 16 shots. Shawinigan’s Antoine Coulombe stopped 29 of the 34 shots he faced, while Charles-Antoine Lavallee made 11 saves on 13 shots.
The series heads back to Charlottetown for Game 5 on Saturday.
