BAT ASSAULT: Kamloops man accused of beating teenager with bat denied bail

KAMLOOPS – The man accused of beating a teenager over the head with a baseball bat, putting him into a coma, will remain behind bars.

Kristopher Teichrieb, 39, was denied bail by Kamloops Provincial Court Judge Stephen Harrison this morning, July 28, more than a month after the alleged assault.

The details of the bail hearing cannot be published due to a court-ordered publication ban.

Family friend and neighbour of Simpson Christina Forde spoke after the decision, saying how anxiety and high stress have been dominating the lives of Simpson's friends and family.

"Today's result has definitely relieved some of those feelings," Forde said. "I don't think somebody that can do things like this should be out in public."

She says things are still looking grave for the Simpson.

"It's not looking good for Jessie," Forde said through tears. "I honestly don't see things working out."

Teichrieb is facing one count of attempted murder after allegedly assaulting Jessie Simpson, 18, when he saw him on his property.

Friends and family have said that Simpson was leaving a party on June 19 when he ended up on Teichrieb's Clifford Avenue driveway.

Teichrieb, whose mother says he had a history of break-ins at his home, allegedly chased Simpson down and attacked him.

Teichrieb's next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 11 to fix a date for his trial.
