Historic Sheep Breeders building gets a facelift
KAMLOOPS – The B.C. Sheep Breeders Building located on 961 Lorne Street was built in 1929.
The building is a former industrial warehouse that serves as a testament to the sheep breeding and wool industry in Kamloops in the 1920s and into the Depression years.
The City of Kamloops is currently working on the restoration/improvement to the building. The $150,000 facelift includes re-siding the building with a new wood siding, painted in the original color schematic, to ensure the exterior heritage integrity of the building is not compromised in any way. New windows, window protection, lighting upgrades, subfloor construction, landscaping and fire suppression engineering are all included in the upgrades. The project started this week.
The City of Kamloops and the Kamloops Museum and Archives are transforming the building into a secure environment whose primary role is to support the KMA and centre on visitor experience aimed to inspire learning and exploration of this historic site.
