Ecuadorean jetliner skids off runway landing in heavy rain

QUITO, Ecuador – A plane with 93 people on board has skidded off a runway while landing during heavy rain at an airport in southern Ecuador.

The Cuenca airport says on its Twitter account that the Brazilian-made Embraer 190 jet operated by local airline TAME was arriving from the capital of Quito when the incident took place around 8 a.m. local time Thursday.

Two people were hospitalized with light injuries.

The accident has forced a shutdown of operations at the airport.
