Three students taken to hospital after CO leak at Saskatoon school

SASKATOON – Three students have been taken to hospital after a carbon monoxide leak at a high school in Saskatoon.

SaskEnergy spokesman Dave Burdeniuk says crews are at St. Joseph’s High School on Saskatoon’s east side.

He says it doesn’t appear to be a major problem.

Burdeniuk says another 12 to 15 students are feeling the effects from carbon monoxide, which include headaches, dizziness and nausea.

Burdeniuk says it’s too early to know the exact cause, but thinks there could be a problem with the school’s boiler.

Carbon monoxide is an odourless, colourless gas found in combustion fumes, such as those produced by cars and trucks, small gasoline engines, stoves, lanterns, burning charcoal and wood, and gas ranges and heating systems.
