Huge development proposed for university neighbourhood in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – A residential project proposed for the corner of McGill Road and Dalhousie Drive in Kamloops is one of the largest in the city's history.

City development supervisor Eric Beach says the six building, 368 unit complex is proposed for a plot of land currently empty across from Thompson Rivers University.

“It’s one of the largest developments we’ve seen in a number of years,” Beach says.

The six buildings will be relatively similar, each standing four to five stories high with amenities inside, including barbecue shelters and business rooms. If approved, it’s likely to be similar to the development at Summit Road and Springhill Drive, which was built by the same developer.

The proposal doesn’t state whether it’s likely to be a rental or strata set up.

Right now, it’s in the proposal stage and will have to be examined by city staff before going before council and a public hearing. Beach says typically proposals take three to four months to process.

The Landmark development which neighbours the proposed development’s location was around 200 units, Beach says, though it also included commercial.
