Fairbanks man dies in hit-and-run crash
FAIRBANKS, Alaska – A Fairbanks man died Wednesday in an apparent hit-and-run crash.
Bobby Kubanyi, 58, was found in a roadway on the north side of the city.
A witness at 12:13 a.m. called dispatchers to report a man stumbling in the roadway and police officers drove to investigate. Minutes later, a second call came in reporting a man lying in the roadway. The witness said the man was bleeding heavily.
Fairbanks Fire Department paramedics pronounced Kubanyi dead at the scene. Based on witness statements and where Kubanyi was found, investigators concluded that Kubanyi likely had been walking in a southbound lane when he was struck.
The driver did not stay at the accident scene or attempt to contact police or emergency medical personnel, police said. Police recovered a vehicle that may have been involved in the crash and were seeking a warrant to search it.
