Penticton Peach Festival continues through the weekend

PENTICTON – There’s no shortage of things to do this weekend in Penticton as Peachfest continues.

The second annual Reel Peach Film Festival showcases the work of filmmakers' efforts to portray an Okanagan experience or produce a short film about Okanagan wine, beer, ciders, spirits, juice or soda. The films run before the main nightly act on the Peters Bros. stage in Okanagan Lake Park on Friday, Aug. 5, Saturday and Sunday starting at 9:30 p.m. There is up to $1,000 in prize money for the winner in each category.

The Peters Bros. Grand Parade gets underway 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, in the downtown core.

Classic rock band Honeymoon Suite plays Peach Fest on Friday night, Aug. 5, starting at 9:30 p.m. in Okanagan Lake Park. Saturday is rock tribute night with tribute acts to Neil Young, AC/DC, and Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Sunday’s show features the R&B Icons, a 12 piece tribute to Motown.

The fourth annual PenTown Throwdown takes place throughout the day Saturday and Sunday at Penticton Youth Park on Riverside Drive. The event features some of the top skateboarders in the province, with skateboard and BMX riders of all ages competing for a total cash purse of over $2,000 in several events, running from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
