Weapons not an ideal donation to Kamloops charities

KAMLOOPS – Donating goods is generally considered a noble act, but Kamloops RCMP are suggesting items like brass knuckles and live ammunition might not be ideal.

A local organization has turned over a variety of items to the Kamloops RCMP which came in as donations, according to a media release. Aside from the ammunition and brass knuckles — swords, knives and a pellet gun were handed in. The dangerous items will now be destroyed by the police.

Instead of donating items that might be dangerous, prohibited or illegal to a local charity, Cpl. Jodi Shelkie suggests dropping them off at a RCMP detatchment.

“They aren’t suitable as a retail item,” she says in the release. “And in the case of the brass knuckles they are a prohibited weapon in Canada.”

Merritt RCMP recently had a large round of military ammunition dropped off. In cases like that, people are asked to phone police and an officer will come take a look.
