Former Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston to throw out first pitch at playoff game
TORONTO – Former Toronto Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston will throw out the ceremonial first pitch in the team’s return to the playoffs.
A source says Gaston was given the honour for Thursday’s Game 1 of the American League Division series between the Jays and the Texas Rangers.
The series-opening festivities at Rogers Centre will also include the raising of Toronto’s new AL East championship banner.
The 71-year-old Gaston was at the helm when the Jays won back-to-back World Series in 1992 and ’93. The Jays had not made the playoffs since then.
Gaston managed the team from 1989 to ’97 and then again from 2008 to 2010.
Game 1 is scheduled to start at 3:37 p.m. ET.
