UPDATE: Vernon boil water notice lifted

UPDATE: 1:10 p.m. July 20, 2013

VERNON – The boil water notice issued for Greater Vernon Water customers on the Kalamalka Lake source has been lifted.

The 24-hour, precautionary boil water notice was issued after a power outage at the Mission Hill treatment plant. An automatic valve didn't close, so untreated water made it into the system.

VERNON – A boil water notice is in effect for Kalamalka Lake users after some untreated water entered the system last night.

Following a power outage at the Mission Hill treatment plant, an automatic valve failed to close and untreated water got into the distribution system.

As a precaution, all customers who receive Kalamalka Lake water are now on a 24-hour Boil Water Notice as of 9:20 pm July 18, 2013.

"The utility is responding to this issue by flushing in affected areas and the distribution system is back to normal," Renee Clark, water quality manager with the Regional District of North Okanagan said.

All customers should exercise caution when using the water for consumption purposes. Water intended for the following uses should be boiled for one minute:

– drinking
– washing fruits and vegetables
– making beverages or ice
– brushing teeth
