World bronze medallists Weaver and Poje skate to gold at Finlandia Trophy
ESPOO, Finland – Canadian ice dancers Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje opened their international season with a victory at the Finlandia Trophy on Saturday.
The world bronze medallists from Waterloo, Ont., won both the short dance and free skate for 161.67 points. Isabella Tobias and Ilia Tkachenko of Israel were second with 150.89, while Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Nikolaj Sorensen of Denmark were third (147.65).
“We had two great programs although there were some mistakes,” said Weaver. “But these events are an opportunity to see the areas we need to improve and get some important feedback.”
Weaver and Poje will compete next at Skate Canada International, which begins Oct. 30 in Lethbridge, Alta.
Brianna Delmaestro of Port Moody, B.C., and Timothy Lum of Burnaby, B.C., were seventh.
Liam Firus of North Vancouver, B.C., is ninth after the men’s singles short program.
