
UNB opens title defence with 4-0 win over Brock at U Sports men’s hockey nationals
TORONTO – Benjamin Corbeil had two goals and an assist as the New Brunswick Reds opened their title defence with a 4-0 quarterfinal win over the Brock Badgers on Thursday at the U Sports men’s hockey championship.
Cody Morgan and Kade Landry also scored for top-ranked UNB, which got a nine-save shutout from Samuel Richard.
Connor Ungar stopped 34 shots for eighth-seeded Brock.
The Reds — who went undefeated all year and are the reigning AUS champions — will face No. 4 Toronto Metropolitan Bold in semifinal play on Saturday.
Toronto edged the fifth-seeded Calgary Dinos 2-1 in overtime Thursday, with Carson Gallagher scoring the game winner 4:31 into the extra frame.
Friday’s quarterfinal matchups will see the No. 2 Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières Patriotes battle the seventh-seed Moncton Aigles Bless, and the No. 6 McGill Redmen take on the third-seeded UBC Thunderbirds.
