Air tanker called in for Adams Lake wildfire near Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – Fire crews are battling a pair of one hectare-sized wildfires northeast of Kamloops today.

The latest is a lighting-caused blaze burning east of Adams Lake, according to Max Birkner with B.C. Wildfire, and an air tanker has been called in to assist.

The other fire, also suspected to be caused by a lightning strike, is at the north end of East Barriere Lake and is now in the mop up stage.

"Those are the two biggest that were dealing with," Birkner says.

There are currently 10 firefighters and one air tanker working the Adams Lake fire, which was reported early yesterday morning, Aug. 15.

The East Barriere Lake fire is expected to be declared out later today once the 11 firefighters on scene are done patrolling the area, Birkner says.

There are currently no campfire bans in the Kamloops Fire Centre, but that could change as early as this weekend.

“There's always a possibility of putting on a fire ban," Birkner says. "They can be put on at any time."
