Penticton police get two-for-one in Wade Avenue bust

PENTICTON – Penticton RCMP got a bonus arrest after tracking down a suspect in a two-month-old break-and-enter case to a residence and finding a second suspect hiding in the crawlspace. 

RCMP spokepserson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says officers with the Targeted Enforcement Unit spotted a man on a bicycle around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11.

When police attempted to stop and arrest the man, the suspect fled on the bicycle, falling off at one point only to continue fleeing on foot, he says. At the scene of his mishap, police found credit cards and bank cards in the name of a person who reported a break-in on Lakeshore Drive earlier that morning. One of the credit cards had already been used to purchase a computer online.

Wrigglesworth says the man was arrested at a home on West Wade Avenue while trying to getaway by climbing out a window.

While at the West Wade Avenue address, police received notice of a man wanted on warrants believed to be hiding in the crawlspace of the residence

A police dog "encouraged” the man to come out and he was arrested, Wrigglesworth says.

Richard Meier is scheduled to appear in Penticton court tomorrow, Aug. 17, facing charges of break-and-enter, possession of stolen property and willfully resisting arrest.

Ryan Luscombe will also appear in court tomorrow. He faces numerous charges including fraud and possession of stolen property.
