Lawyer for Tories says bar must be high for elections to be overturned

OTTAWA – The lawyer for Conservative MPs whose election wins are being challenged in Federal Court is cautioning the bar must be high to overturn the results of a vote.

Arthur Hamilton says throwing out the results in six ridings could unleash a torrent of legal challenges after each election.

He says the will of voters must be allowed to stand.

Eight voters are challenging the election results over allegations of vote-suppression tactics.

They allege misleading or harassing calls made during last year’s federal election may have affected the outcome in those ridings.

The hearing continues.
