KELOWNA – Firefighters quickly put out a fire near a packing plant on Lakeshore Road early this morning, but it's unclear how the fire started.
Kelowna Fire Department Platoon Capt. Tim Light says a 911 call alerted them to the fire at Sun City Cherries in the 4000 block of Lakeshore Road at 2:39 a.m. today, Aug. 17 where they found pallets and cardboard boxes on fire. Luckily no structures or other values were impacted, although Light says overheard wires were threatened.
Crews remained on scene later this morning checking for hotspots and mopping up.
"Kelowna Fire Department would like to remind the public to discard smoking materials responsibly," Light says in a release, but doesn't indicate if that's the suspected cause of the fire.
