Peel Region Police officer, civilian shot in Brampton, Ont.

BRAMPTON, – Peel Region Police say one of their officers and a civilian are in hospital after being shot in Brampton, Ontario.

Police spokesman Constable Thomas Ruttan said the officer was on a premise check call at around 10:20 Friday night when he was fired upon in his cruiser.

The officer was hit by a single shot but was able to drive away from the scene and was in a local hospital where he was listed in serious but stable condition.

Constable Ruttan described the officer’s wound as non-life threatening.

He said a male civilian who was shot at the scene prior to the officer’s arrival had been rushed to a trauma centre in critical condition.

Police were still searching early Saturday morning for a male suspect considered to be armed and dangerous.
