Patrick Dempsey is participating in 50-mile ride on final day of Dempsey Challenge in Maine

LEWISTON, Maine – Actor Patrick Dempsey saddled up for a 50-miler as the Dempsey Challenge wraps up.

Dempsey is best known as a doctor nicknamed McDreamy on TV’s “Grey’s Anatomy.” He rode Sunday on the final day of the two-day bike-and-run fundraiser in Lewiston, Maine.

The event is a fundraiser for The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at the Central Maine Medical Center. He and his sisters were inspired to help create the centre in 2008 by their mother, who died from cancer last year.

Last year, 3,871 participants in the Dempsey Challenge raised $1.14 million.

Dempsey left “Grey’s Anatomy” earlier this year. In addition to racing, he’s filming the movie “Bridget Jones’s Baby” in London.
