Hanya Yanagihara’s novel ‘A Little Life’ among 3 fiction finalists for $5,000 Carnegie medal

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Hanya Yanagihara’s “A Little Life,” a 700-page novel that has won the $50,000 Kirkus fiction prize and received a nomination for a National Book Award, is now up for an honour handed out by the American Library Association.

The association announced Monday that “A Little Life” is one of three finalists for the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction. The other nominees are Jim Shepard’s “The Book of Aron” and Viet Thanh Nguyen’s “The Sympathizer.”

In the nonfiction category, the finalists are Helen Macdonald’s bestselling “H is for Hawk,” Andrea Wulf’s “The Invention of Nature” and photographer Sally Mann’s memoir “Hold Still,” also a National Book Award nominee.

Winners in each category, to be announced Jan. 10, receive $5,000. Runners-up receive $1,000.
