Man fined after pleading guilty to abusing dog found barely alive

VICTORIA – A Victoria man accused of abusing a dog has been fined after pleading guilty to failing to provide necessities to an animal.

A provincial court judge fined Douglas Pattison $250 and banned him from owning pets for three years.

Pattison was charged several weeks after a 10-year-old Shih Tzu named Tiny was found in August, barely alive and wandering the streets of Victoria.

Tiny’s fur was so matted and filthy that maggot-infested abscesses had developed on the dog’s skin.

It also had extensive dental disease and was so severely dehydrated thatinternal organs were affected.

Veterinarians tried to treat the little pooch for severe skin abscesses and other ailments, but Tiny was so ill it had to be euthanized three months later. (CFAX)
