UPDATE: Jackpine Lake fire mostly contained; no threats to homes

WEST KELOWNA – A rank one wildfire continues to smoulder near Jackpine Lake about 18 kilometres west of West Kelowna.

B.C. Wldfire fire information officer Rachel Witt says the 14-hectare fire is 75 per cent contained and crews are trying to establish a “hose lay” around the fire’s edge.

“They literally put hoses all the way around the fire, so they can get at water quickly,” Witt says.

Crews are fighting the blaze with 23 personnel and three pieces of heavy equipment. Witt says air support has been withdrawn for other fires.

The fire is located about 2.5 kilometres from Jackpine Lake resort near Godfriedson Mountain but Witt says no structures are under threat.
