Former world darts champion Richie Burnett tests positive for cocaine, banned for 18 months

LONDON – A former world darts champion has been banned for 18 months after testing positive for cocaine.

UK Anti-Doping says Richie Burnett, a Welshman who won the world championship in 1995, tested positive in an in-competition test in November 2014.

Burnett is suspended until May 2, 2016.

UKAD legal director Graham Arthur says in a statement on Wednesday that “no matter what the circumstances, (athletes) are solely responsible for any prohibited substance found in their system.”
