ORLANDO, Fla. – The Latest on the fatal shooting of Christina Grimmie, onetime star of “The Voice,” in Orlando, Florida:

5:50 p.m.

The Orlando Police Department has identified the man who shot and killed “The Voice” singer Christina Grimmie.

Police tweeted Saturday that the shooter was 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl of Saint Petersburg, Florida.

Orlando Police Chief John Mina said earlier Saturday that the suspect had on him two handguns, two loaded magazines and a hunting knife when he confronted Grimmie at an Orlando concert venue on Friday night. She died from her injuries Saturday morning.

The 22-year-old singer from New Jersey finished third during season six of NBC’s “The Voice” in 2014, competing on the team of Maroon 5 star Adam Levine.

A concert fan who was outside the Orlando venue where singer Christina Grimmie shot and killed says she at first thought the “pops” she heard were balloons until people ran out of The Plaza Live venue screaming.

Kaitlin Martin said Saturday that security workers ran out of the building screaming at people to leave since a gunman had fired shots inside the concert venue.

Martin described the scene as “chaos” and says people were running everywhere.

Grimmie was shot to death after giving a concert on Friday night. She died early Saturday.

Orlando Police Chief John Mina says the suspect who shot and killed a singer who rose to fame on “The Voice” television show had on him two handguns, two loaded magazines and a hunting knife when he confronted Christina Grimmie at an Orlando concert venue.

Mina says there were unarmed security guards at The Plaza concert venue and they checked bags and purses for contraband.

But Mina says there were no metal detectors or pat-downs of people as they entered The Plaza, a converted Space Age movie house.

Grimmie was shot to death after giving a concert in Orlando on Friday night. She died early Saturday.

Mina says the man fatally shot himself after he was tackled by Grimmie’s brother.

Police spokeswoman Michelle Guido says the suspect was 27 years old.

Mina says the suspect didn’t appear to know Christina Grimmie personally and may have been a deranged fan, although the motive was still unknown.

Christina Grimmie’s last Facebook post a few hours before she was fatally shot showed a smiling upbeat young woman asking people to attend her concert.

“Hey guys, what’s up?” she said into the camera. The 22-year-old was bubbly and urged fans to stop by the show at The Plaza in Orlando. She closed with an excited “byee!”

The video was posted around 7 p.m. and according to authorities, the concert ended around 10 p.m. Grimmie was shot as she signed autographs for fans at a merchandise table.

Florida authorities say ‘The Voice’ star Christina Grimmie is in critical condition after being shot at a concert venue in Orlando by a suspect who then fatally shot himself after being tackled by the singer-songwriter’s brother.

Orlando Police Department officials tell WKMG-TV (http://bit.ly/1PkSY0k ) that Grimmie was shot Friday night at The Plaza Live, where she was scheduled to perform. They say Grimmie’s brother tackled the shooter, who then shot himself.

Police say the suspect had two guns.

No further information was immediately available. An investigation is ongoing.

Grimmie, a 22-year-old New Jersey native, finished third during season six of NBC’s “The Voice.”
