Charges laid in connection with Peachland online date that turned into a kidnapping

PEACHLAND – The man arrested for allegedly kidnapping a woman he met through online dating has been formally charged.

Jean-Francois Dufour, 36, was arrested in Peachland on Aug. 13 after police used a plane to locate a silver 2000 Dodge Durango that was tied to a report of a man who refused to let a woman leave his vehicle.

A media release from Const. Jesse O’Donaghey said Dufour allegedly drove around the Central Okanagan for several hoursbefore letting the woman out.

The release says the two met online and in person several times.

He was arrested and has now been charged with kidnapping, forcible confinement, sexual assault and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
