Changes coming soon to Kamloops transit routes

KAMLOOPS – Rider feedback guided B.C. Transit's decisions when putting together changes to routes and schedules in Kamloops next month.

Jonathon Dyck of B.C. Transit says in a media release rider comments, feedback and other public input guided the changes to routes and schedules that take effect on Sept. 4, 2016.

• Route 4 Pacific way: An early morning trip will be added to get riders to Thompson Rivers University by 6:47 a.m.
• Route 7 Aberdeen via Bestwick: A new stop will be added on Columbia Street for Royal Inland Hospital, resulting in a minor downtown route change.
• Route 10 North Shore TRU express: A new trip will be added at 2:57 p.m. from TRU to the North Shore exchange
• Route 13 Yellowhead: The earliest trip will leave at 6:57 a.m. from Heffley Creek to connect with Route 10 North Shore Express at the North Shore exchange
• Route 14 Batchelor Heights: An evening trip will be added at 8:22 p.m. from the North shore exchange.

HandyDART service will get bumped up to 2,000 hours per year following an agreement signed by the City of Kamloops and B.C. Transit in August. B.C. Transit says this is to help combat the high demand on weekdays in the early afternoons and Saturday and Sunday mornings.

By September 2018, more additions including a custom bus and increased hours are also on the agenda. 

All of these changes result from public feedback and the Kamloops Transit Future Plan, Dyck said.

The additions will effect timing of all routes, so B.C Transit is advising riders to check the new rider's guide for the most up-to-date information.
