Kamloops urban hen registry open, only single registration so far

KAMLOOPS – After months of debate, the system for officially registering urban hens in Kamloops is active.

Kamloops development coordinator Ben Chobater says the city's webpage has been up for a few weeks and includes information on how to take care of hens, registration forms and an explanation of the bylaw.

“They’ve been working on it for the last month or so,” he says. “It has on there all sorts of information.”

So far there’s only been one registration through the free system but a press release announcing the opening of registration only came out today, Aug 26. Self-registration of urban hens is mandatory under the bylaw ammendment.

The bylaw change has been in place since June. So far there have been no complaints to bylaw officers about hens since it was finalized, Chobater says.
