Impaired driver crashes into Pandosy Street tree Sunday morning

KELOWNA – A man police say may have been drunk collided with a tree on Pandosy Street over the weekend.

RCMP Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a media release the lone male driver was travelling north on Pandosy Street when it “failed to negotiate a right curve” shortly after 6 a.m. on Aug. 28.

“As a result, it is believed that the vehicle struck the curbing, slid backwards across the roadway, over a sidewalk and into a tree on the vehicle's rear passenger side,” he says.

The man failed a roadside breathalyzer after officers detected signs of impairment. He was taken to the Kelowna detachment where he again provided breath samples that were over the legal limit.

He was released from custody, issued driving prohibitions and faces potential impaired driving charges.

Witnesses to the crash, who have not yet spoken to police, are asked to call the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
